The Spring Migration Celebration at Creamer’s Field hosted hundreds of visitors during Saturday’s special event. Some even flew in for the show.
There were lots of booths with lots of hands-on activities for kids and families. But the real stars of the day were, of course, the migrating waterfowl who filled the field — swans, ducks, geese, cranes and more.
Expert birdwatchers and photographers kept their eyes trained on the field, with experts helping newcomers by pointing out species of birds and offering photography tips.
Kids crammed around a table and used colorful supplies to create their own migrating swallow on a stick, so they could join the lively Swallow Parade. Another booth helped kids pick out seeds and other food that each bird species favors. At another, kids learned how to make a bird feeder using a recycled plastic bottle and a small tree branch for a perch.
Creamer’s Field also hosted a Spring Awakening Walk and a chance to learn about birds of prey, demonstrating the expertise of local falconers and their falcons.
