When the Midnight Sun Council Scouting America planned a Kids Fishing Derby at Lost Lake Scout Camp last Saturday, they expected about 70 kids to to show up.
To their surprise, more than 140 boys and girls took on the challenge, ready to wet their lines at 8 a.m. It was time to drill more ice fishing holes in the ice.
The derby was open to all ages, with prizes for 17 years old and younger and 18 years old and older. The categories included weight of five fish and biggest fish.
A total of 135 fish were reeled in. The longest fish caught was an Arctic char, brought in by 6-year-old Cory.
Due to the event popularity, plans are already under way for next year.
